About Our Chieftaincy
Our History, Our Traditions, Our Future
Our Heritage Story
The Mabhele Chieftaincy of Embuthweni has a rich history dating back to 1835, rooted in the leadership of our ancestors. From Chief Kaulela the founding leader, to Chief Sajini, Chief Gqirana, Chief Nkwenkwe, and Chief Mzikayise, each carried the responsibility of guiding and protecting the people.
Chief Nkwenkwe ruled from 1945 to 1954, after our Chieftaincy with others were demoted by the Apartheid government. when they were restored in 1962, Chief Nkwenkwe had died, from 1985 Kaulela Royal Family started claiming their restoration, it took 40 years to have our restoration. On the 26 September 2025, the son of Dekana, who is the son of Gqirhana was installed as a Senior Traditional Leader.
Today, under the leadership of Chief Mzikayise, the Mabhele community continues to honor its heritage while embracing progress. Our story is one of resilience, tradition, and identity — a living legacy that unites past and present generations.
